Our Cord System

This table shows the cord color system that Gingarte Capoeira Chicago uses to represent a student's level of skill and years of experience. Students receive their first cord during batizado, the annual event in which new students are initiated as capoeiristas and existing students, when eligible, advance to their next cord.

REDO DIAGRAM

Capoeira schools may use different color schemes to represent different levels. Some schools use different kind of fabric to make cords or tie them with a different style of knot. Gingarte's system is similar to Cordão de Ouro's system.

Many cord color systems are based on the colors of Brazilian flag. As students progress to more advanced levels, the cord takes on the color of the Brazilian flag from the exterior (green) to the interior (white).

FAQ: How can I get promoted faster?

There is no formula to getting promoted. You technically should get your first cord the first day you start.
